Anjou City

Historically , it was a land for farmers and other agricultural workers. Anjou was transformed in the 1950s into an increasingly urbanized culture. In 1956, Anjou was separated from a parish to create Ville d'Anjou. In 2002, it was stripped of the name "ville de" to become just Anjou. Anjou did not get the required 35% for secession from Montreal in the referendums. It was still part of the city. An interesting Anjou tourist attraction is Les Galeries of Anjou, the biggest shopping mall in Montreal However, what is noteworthy is the actual roads leading to its creation.

The development of the Metropolitan and the highway 25 eventually resulted in the construction of an industrial park, which would lead to the construction of the commercial center. According to the census of 2011, Anjou is home to 22% of the population that is over 50. The average Anjou citizen is 44.7 years old. About forty-two thousand residents are residents of Anjou home; 89% of the population speak only one in their work environment, the language being mostly French. 96% of Anjou's residents learnt French as their first language when they were children and 67% were French-speaking.

Anjou's native Quebecois comprise 70% of the population of the population, with the rest being an immigrant adult group of Italy, Haiti, or Algeria. Most of the people living in Anjou are Catholic however there is a tiny Muslim minority (10 10%) being influenced by their New France ancestral ancestors. Anjou's provincial political district is combined with Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve to form Anjou-Louis-Riel, a circumscription notable for one of its past MNAs and former Premier Pierre Marc Johnson of the Parti Quebecois. Its federal political district is Honore-Mercier, which is combined with Rivieres-des-Prairies--Pointe-aux-Trembles and a bit of Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve.
